Custom T-Shirt Printing Sydney: Staff Uniforms, Events and Brand Merch Explained

A printed T-shirt is one of the most cost-effective branding investments a business can make. Unlike a flyer that gets read once and discarded, a well-designed, quality-printed T-shirt gets worn repeatedly. Every time your staff member, team player or satisfied customer wears it, your brand moves through the world.

Here is everything you need to know about ordering custom T-shirt printing in Sydney.

What Do Businesses Use Custom T-Shirts For?

  • Staff uniforms for clinics, GP practices, retail, cafes, construction and services
  • Corporate and team events — charity walks, fun runs, team days
  • Trade show and expo team wear
  • Promotional merchandise for giveaways and brand campaigns
  • Club and community organisation wear
  • New product or service launches

Print Methods for Custom T-Shirts

Screen Printing

Screen printing is the traditional method — ink is pushed through a stencil (screen) directly onto the fabric. It produces vivid, opaque colour that is extremely durable. Screen printing is most cost-effective for larger runs of the same design, typically 50 pieces or more, because a separate screen must be created for each colour. Each additional colour in the design adds setup cost.

Direct to Garment (DTG)

DTG printing works similarly to inkjet paper printing — the design is printed directly onto the garment using specialised inks. It excels at complex, photographic or multi-colour designs and is highly cost-effective for small runs (as few as one to five pieces). The result is a soft, high-resolution print that integrates with the garment fabric.

Heat Transfer

Heat transfer printing uses a specialist vinyl or transfer paper that is applied to the garment under heat and pressure. It is a versatile method that works on a wide range of garment types and is commonly used for personalised pieces (names and numbers on sports jerseys, for example) and small-run branded items.

Embroidery

For a premium finish — particularly on polo shirts, caps and workwear — embroidery produces a textured, professional result that is highly durable and communicates quality. It is most suited to smaller, simpler designs like logos and text rather than complex, photographic imagery.

How Many T-Shirts Should You Order?

For staff uniforms, the practical answer is at least two per staff member — one on, one being washed. Many businesses order three or four per person to ensure supply across busy periods.

For events, order generously. Running out of shirts at a team day or trade show is an opportunity cost. With most print methods, the unit cost per garment drops significantly as quantity increases, so ordering an extra 20 to 30 shirts over what you think you need rarely adds proportionally to the total cost.

Setting Up Your Artwork

T-shirt print artwork should be supplied as a vector file (AI or EPS) or high-resolution PNG (300 DPI at print size) with a transparent background. Specify the print position (left chest, full front, back) and the maximum print dimensions.

If you do not have print-ready artwork, our design team at ABC Print Shop can create it for you — and you get 20 percent off design work when you print with us.
